Economic and Political Geography will be our final lesson focus prior to examining regions of the planet.
The objectives here are as follows:
Power, Authority, & Governance
Students will understand why societies create and adopt systems of governance and how these systems address human needs, rights, and citizen responsibilities.
compare different political systems (their ideologies, structure, institutions, processes, and political cultures) with that of the United States, and identify representative political leaders from selected historical and contemporary settings.
Production, Distribution, & Consumption
Students will understand fundamental economic principles and ways in which economies are shaped by geographic and human factors.
compare how values and beliefs influence economic decisions in different societies.
distinguish between the domestic and global economic systems, and explain how the two interact.
Global Connections
Students will understand causes and effects of interaction among societies, including trade, systems of international exchange, war, and diplomacy.
analyze the causes, consequences, and possible solutions to persistent, contemporary, and emerging global issues, such as health, security, resource allocation, economic development, and environmental quality.
I.) Read pp. 83-6 of World Geography
In addition to the above there will be a lecture and classroom discussion on the topic of ideologies and governance. We will focus on the political spectrum and some of the challenges of it.
The assignment below is to be completed by groups of two to three. Each will complete one mind map of an ideology poster size. Grades will be adjusted for this modification. See assignment below.
